Insulate Brine Lines and Ammonia Evaporator

Previous page Next page
  rev. 2008-11-25

Existing Conditions

The brine piping and ammonia evaporator do not have any insulation.  This results in excessive heat gain from the surrounding space.  The piping also gets covered with ice or condensation, rusting the pipe and increasing the likelihood of eventual leakage.

Retrofit Conditions

Insulate the piping and evaporator with 2-inch rigid fibre glass insulation covered by a durable all-service jacket and properly-sealed vapour barrier.  The insulation and jacket should be selected to remain undamaged when someone stands on it.

This will reduce ice plant cooling load and eliminate condensation and ice build up on the piping and evaporator.
