Net Present Value is a financial indicator used to judge the value of an investment after costs are subtracted.  In an Energy Asset Upgrade Plan, costs would include the initial investment and any ongoing maintenance costs.

If NPV is positive, the investment should be made (unless an even better investment exists), otherwise it should not.

Net Present Value = (Net Savings x Present Worth Factor) – Price Estimate
